Hetoima

Hetoima

Know it. Own it. Use it.

A Bible memory app you talk to. I say a verse out loud, see exactly which words I nailed, then learn to explain it and use it in a real conversation.

  • Say a verse out loud and see every word graded, from memory.
  • Reviews come back right before a verse would fade.
  • Explain a verse in my own words and get feedback on clarity and accuracy.
  • Practice real conversations with people who see the world nine different ways.

How it works

Speak

Pick today's verse, hold the talk button and recite it from memory

What was actually broken

Every memory tool I looked at stopped at the words.

1 Peter 3:15 says to always be prepared to give a reason for the hope you have. Hetoima comes from the Greek word for prepared in that verse. I wanted to recite a verse from memory, understand it well enough to explain it, and be ready to use it when it comes up in a real conversation.

What I tried, and got wrong

The hardest part was trust.

Speech recognition mishears small words, like “and” coming back as “in,” and one misheard word can sink a grade you earned. So every result shows exactly what the app heard, I can teach it my own corrections, and the grading forgives the machine's mistakes while still catching mine.

What it does now

A daily practice that takes about seven minutes, with three modes on one ladder.

Know it, Own it and Use it. I wrote the full spec, from the grading rules to the review schedule, and designed its look from scratch. The logo is a set of voice bars whose center bar becomes a cross, gold is saved for progress and the talk button, and a scripture typeface is used for the verse itself and nothing else.

What changed

The bigger shift is being ready to talk about it, in my own words, when it matters.

Scripture I practice comes back on schedule now, and I get to say it out loud until it sticks.
